    Chapter 2423

rice''s gaze was sharp and sinister as she fixed her eyes on Jace, who was standing at the front of the car.

She wanted nothing more than to step on the elerator and run him down, crushing this wretched man to death. But Jace was the Boss''s trusted right-hand man, so she could not afford to act recklessly.

rice wrapped her white fur coat tightly around herself, slowly stepped out of the car, and slowly approached Jace.

Their gazes locked, creating a tense, turbulent confrontation.

"Jace, don''t you have something to exin to me?" rice broke the silence with a frosty

    tone.

Jace''s pale lips opened stiffly. "That woman, where did you take her?"

"How dare you question me?" rice sneered, her anger ring up. "If the Boss hadn''t had the foresight to have me cover for you tonight, Yvonne would''ve long escaped!"

rice gritted her teeth and took a step closer. "Is this how you''re handling the task our boss put you in charge of? Aren''t you the one who takes out anyone who gets in your way, no matter who they are? Yet you couldn''t even deal with a little nobody? Or... Did you let her go on purpose? Are you thinking of betraying the Boss?"

Jace clenched his fists, the sound of his leather gloves crunching echoing in the night air. His jaw tightened, sharp as a freshly sharpened de.

The word "betraying" felt like a heavyweight, one he had never even considered.

As soon as rice uttered those words, it was as if a raging storm had erupted within his stoic demeanor, shaking him to his core.

rice stood on tiptoes and reached to grab his cor.

At thest moment, Jace stepped back, causing her to lose her bnce and stumble awkwardly.

Enraged, she unleashed a furious outburst.

"Jace, I''m warning you. Don''t you dare get any funny ideas! Your pathetic life belongs to the Boss! If it wasn''t for his generosity, you would have died on the beach long ago, rotting away at the bottom of the ocean. You''d better stay loyal and obedient like the dog you are!

"If you dare to step out of line, I''ll make sure the Boss knows about it. Trust me, your fate will be far worse than getting tossed to the sharks!"

    "Ah!"

As soon as rice finished her tirade, a sudden jolt of pain shot through her nose. She felt disoriented, spinning around before copsing to the ground.

"Who are you calling a dog?" Jace red coldly at the woman sprawled helplessly on the ground.

His fists, as unyielding as iron, remained tightly clenched as he sneered, "If I''m a dog, then what does that make you? A donkey who does nothing but make a ruckus?"

rice cried out, clutching her nose as blood gushed out. "How dare you hit me?! How dare you punch a woman?!"

Tears streamed down her face, which was the product of countless costly cosmetic procedures—a meticulous effort to transform herself at great expense.

Maintaining her appearance cost her hundreds of thousands of dors monthly.

The punch not only left her nose crooked but seemed to have given her a minor concussion as well. The pain was unbearable!

"You should be grateful you belong to the Boss," Jace said coldly. "Otherwise, those words you just said would''ve been yourst."

A chill ran down rice''s spine. For a moment, she even forgot to cry.

This man always delivered the most ruthless words in the calmest tone.

Realizing he could not get any information out of rice, Jace turned to leave. But just as he stepped away, he stopped and nced back. "What did you say earlier?"

rice, still holding her bleeding nose, seemed disoriented. "W-What?"

"You mentioned earlier that the Boss saved me at the beach?" Jace''s dark eyes narrowed, a rare flicker of curiosity appearing.

It was a stark contrast to his usual disinterest. For once, he felt an intense desire to learn the truth about his past.

"Why was I at the beach? Why was I in the ocean?"

rice''s heart was racing. She recalled Grant''s strict orders to never reveal even a sliver of Jace''s past to him.

In her anger, she had inadvertently let a small detail slip out.

But she assured herself that revealing just a tiny piece of information could not possibly do any harm. At least, that was the excuse she told herself to stay calm.
