Upon hearing Matthew call out to her, Jennifer felt her heart skip a bit. She couldn''t shake off the images of Matthew breaking people''s legs.
In a panic, she gritted her teeth and ran as fast as she could without turning back. She was afraid that if she didn''t hurry, Matthew would break her legs too.
An electric scooter zipped by and crashed into Jennifer. Jennifer shrieked in pain, holding her leg as she fell to the ground.
Startled, the young woman on the electric scooter burst into tears. Ignoring that she had fallen too, she sobbingly ran over and said, "Oh no! I didn''t do it on purpose. Where did I hit you? I''m calling 911 right now. Don''t worry."
Jennifer scrunched up her face in agony, but when she saw Matthewing toward her with a broken baseball bat, she was too scared to even talk to the young woman on the scooter.
Instead, she picked herself up and hobbled away, continuing to flee.
The woman on the scooter was halfway through making the call when she watched the scene unfold. She hurriedly hung up and shouted, "Stop running, miss! Aren''t you going to see a doctor?"
Jennifer was limping but she fled pretty quickly like a thief trying to avoid getting caught.
Matthew chased after Jennifer for a bit. He stopped when she saw her disappearing into the crowd. The reason he had been so aggressive was to intimidate her.
After what had happened, Jennifer probably wouldn''t dare to stir up any more trouble again.
Zachary called over the security to clear away the brawny men writhing on the ground. He turned to Matthew and said, "Thanks a lot, Matthew."
Matthew chuckled. "Don''t sweat it. We''re friends."
When Matthew first ran into Zachary, they hung out in the staff room, shooting the breeze. After everything they went through, they became much closer. It had been a while since theyst saw each other, and it felt like a long-awaited reunion.
Zachary leaned in close to Matthew and whispered, "Did you fight with Ms. Carter or something?"
Feeling that things with Rachel were kind ofplicated, Matthew didn''t want to get into it. He smiled and said, "It''s nothing serious."
Zachary lowered his voice. "Since you haven''t been around, people have been saying you broke up with Ms. Carter in thepany. A lot of folks are eyeing on her now."
Matthew furrowed his brows. "Seriously? I don''t know about that."
Zachary looked at Matthew with a strange look. "You honestly have no idea? Let me break it down for you.
"As Ms. Carter''s chauffeur, you''ve won her over. Everyone sees it as a legend and wants to be like you, snagging a rich woman. After your breakup with her, a few of the guards tried to ask her out."
No way. How did that happen? Matthew was dumbfounded.
Zachary noticed Matthew''s expression and said with a grin, "They might share the same ambition, but they couldn''t end up with the same fate as you. All of them were fired.
"Just talking about it makes me realize how awesome you are. What''s your secret to win over Ms. Carter?"
Matthew raised an eyebrow. "Do you want to make a move on Ms. Carter as well?"
Zachary shook his head. "Stop pulling my leg. I can''t realistically go after Ms. Carter. Instead, I''ve set my eyes on the female executives. I heard the financed director is divorced and has a kid.
"Then, there''s also the female manager of the HR department. She''s in her 30s and just got divorced not long ago. Next, there''s also the salesdy from the sales department. She''s 32 and also divorced. I''m not asking for much. I''m good with someone in this range."
Grinning, Matthew said, "You''re only going for divorced women, huh? Is that your type?"
Zachary felt embarrassed. "To be
honest, I feel like young girls just
don''t get it. It''s not really exciting,
so... Let''s drop the subject for now. It''s a bit awkward. But seriously, what''s your trick to score Ms. Carter?"
Matthew recalled that Zachary had brought this up once, but they got interrupted when Rachel walked in. That conversation just stopped there.
Matthew''s situation with Rachel was prettyplicated. It wasn''t something he
could exin in just a few sentences.
So, Matthew brushed it over with a joke. "It reallyes down to having the right tools and knowing how to use them."
Zachary acted like he saw thising. "Just as I thought. I really hit the nail on the head. I feel like I''m
in pretty good shape, but I''m still
elne
many steps away from being impressive. What do you think should take to get help with that?"
The conversation had be more private.
