C8 – Greed!
Tan Chong slipped the Energy Stone into his storage bag. As he was about to start gathering food, he faintly heard footsteps from downstairs.
He immediately unleashed his psychic force to scan the area below.
Through his psychic perception, Tan Chong noticed two men and a woman making their way up the stairs, each armed with a weapon. They were likely out scavenging for supplies as well.
Tan Chong was familiar with the various teams from the Celestial South Gathering Land that searched for resources, but these three were strangers to him, clearly not from his own Gathering Land.
?Gripping his Chopping de tightly, he braced himself for their arrival, aware of the harsh realities of survival in this world.
Even within the same Gathering Land, people would fight over a significant find of resources, let alone with strangers.
“Who are you? Are you responsible for all these zombie corpses?” they asked, visibly taken aback by the scene before them.
?”I took them down. What do you need?” Tan Chong replied coolly, appraising the trio.
“You managed to kill all these zombies by yourself?” The woman, in her twenties and dressed in a ck vest that entuated her figure, looked at him with wide eyes, astonished.
?The two men were equally astounded as they turned their gaze to Tan Chong.
Not even an Evolver was guaranteed to dispatch so many zombies in such a confined space, and Tan Chong, young and slight of build, hardly fit the image of a powerful Evolver.
?”Maybe he’s new here? Perhaps he didn’t kill these zombies?”
The men spected among themselves.
“It was my team and I who killed them. But I wasn’t as fortunate as my teammates; they all fell to the zombies,” Tan Chong responded, without disclosing his status as an Evolver.
A nce at the ground confirmed their suspicions, revealing the bodies of three men.
“Captain, the Energy Stones from the zombies are gone,” the woman said, turning to the bearded man beside her.
“You’re the one who took the Energy Stones, aren’t you?” the man used, fixing Tan Chong with a hostile stare.
He could see clearly that there were eight zombies in the vicinity, which meant Tan Chong possessed eight Energy Stones—a significant fortune by any measure.
“Why shouldn’t I take the Energy Stones if I’m the one who killed the zombies?” Tan Chong said, smiling.
“So, you do have the Energy Stones on you,” the man said, licking his lips as his face turned grim.
“Captain, there’s a treasure trove of canned food in here!” another man eximed upon spotting the cans scattered around the room.
The other two quickly turned their attention to the room.
“There’s so much food!” the woman said, her excitement palpable as she made a beeline for the room.
Tan Chong’s brow furrowed, and he positioned himself in front of the doorway. “I discovered this ce first.”
The man with the beard chuckled.
Having secured eight Energy Stones, Tan Chong was not about to let his guard down. With the discovery of the abundant food supply, it was even more imperative that he protect his im.
“Hand over the Energy Stones, and I’ll ensure you’re left with an intact body,” the man said, hisughter fading into a menacing snarl.
“So, you’ve decided not to spare me?” Tan Chong’s voice was ice-cold.
