Bang!
The door slammed open. Robert and Mahina burst in and set the babies on the counter. Hearts racing and heads spinning, they both take a deep breath and think.
"It''s their ki. When those things went inside of them it suddenly turned chaotic"
Mahina said. As if the situation wasn''t nerve-wracking enough, with both babies screaming murder there was no way for her to be calm. As she panicked Robert was calm and quiet
"What do we do? Why aren''t you saying anything?!"
At this point, she was one step away from losing her mind. Finally, Robert spoke up
"We have to unseal our ki and seal their''s"
Mahina stopped in her tracks. If they unsealed their ki centers it would mean that everything they had left behind would eventually find them again. Perhaps not today, perhaps years from now, but eventually everything would return
"...are you sure?"
Mahina knew that although she was fully willing to give up everything for the children, Robert had finally found peace after all these years. Would he really be okay with giving it all up?
"There''s nothing I wouldn''t do for you hon. I was never able to see you smile as you played with our son but these two... That boy right there... Seeing you smile as you looked into his eyes… it was like the spark that had died inside you so long ago returned from the grave. So yes, I''m sure."
Tears streamed down Mahina''s face as Robert held her close. These weren''t their children but they''d both do anything to protect them.
"Plus I kinda took a liking to the big guy too"
Robert said with a smile as they prepared to do something that couldn''t be taken back. Suddenly they both jammed their hands into their chests. Robert coughed blood, clenched his teeth, and crushed a ball of some sort inside his chest. Mahina coughed blood as well. As she reached into her chest, a similar ball inside began to rotate at a high speed before shattering and dispersing.
For a moment everything stopped and an eerie silence fell over the house. In the next moment, a beacon of light shot from both of their bodies. A sharp white beam with a tinge of frost blue shot from Mahina, while an eerie blackish-red shot from Robert. The clouds were pushed aside as if even the heavens bowed to the light.
As the lights cleared Robert and Mahina began the process of closing off the boys'' ki centers. As they moved their own ki to their eyes, they began to see the physical aura of the babies. Moving ki to their hands they began to shape the auras into small balls. Finally, after fully collecting it, they forced their own ki into the balls of aura, slowly solidifying them. Finally, they were safe.
"What''s that?"
Robert noticed that although they had sealed their ki and the small pieces of metal had sealed their other powers one of the babies still had electricity popping on his skin. While Robert and Mahina stood looking at one of the babies dumbfounded, the other one rolled on his side and got a splitter from the wooden table. Robert rushed over, pulled out the splinter, and watched in awe as the wound immediately closed on its own. Although the baby hadn''t cried when the splinter went in nor when it came out, he was screaming at the top of his lung after it healed. This novel''s true home is a different platform. "...I feel like he''s hungry. Let me feed him."
Mahina said
"Can you even still-..."
Robert stopped as he turned around and saw his wife with a bottle of formula. Did she sprint to the store and back that fast? The baby instantly went silent as soon as he latched onto the bottle.
"How did you know he was hungry?"
Robert asked, bewildered.
"A mother''s instincts I suppose"
Mahina said with a smile
"Woah hahaha! Be careful he''s still eating"
Mahina shouted as Robert lifted her off her feet and kissed her. Finally, a happy family. Finally, Mahina could give all her love to a little one. Or was it too early to decide…?
"...where are their parents?"
Despite how happy she was, Mahina knew it wasn''t right to keep someone else''s child. She was happy enough to have had the chance to feel like a parent even if it was short-lived.
"When the kids were taken, the parents were silenced. They no longer have parents."
Robert said. Although this meant they could keep the kids, this still made Mahina sad. They had been blessed with two baby boys but they''d never be able to watch them grow up. Seeing that She was still sad, Robert said
"Well, maybe we should take them to an orphanage. I''m sure they''ll-"
"NO!"
Robert grinned as Mahina cut him off. As Mahina blushed, Robert put his arm around her shoulder.
"Then cheer up. Tomorrow we''ll go make a grave for them and we''ll raise these two into men that would make their parents proud, okay?"
Mahina smiled.
"What should we name them?"
"How about Gideon for the big one?"
"You do know that''s not a black boy''s name right?"
"Gideon can be his name and we''ll just call him Deon, how about that?"
"I suppose that can work, and we can call static shock here Rai."
"I kinda like that"
"You''re kinda old to be a dad. Are you sure you can handle it?"
"You''re kinda old to be alive but you seem to manage it."
Mahina punched Robert in his stomach as he laughed
"I''m just kidding hon. We''ll just be the best grandparents we can be. What''s the worst that could happen."
Boom!
Rai sent Deon through the wall in a ball of electricity. For a moment Deon lays there, breathing heavily. Suddenly he shot up out of the wall into the sky. As he slammed into the ground where Rai had just been an enormous crater formed.
"Wayyyyy too slow buddy. You still ain''t shake the dust out ya a-"
"Bro I wasn''t even ready yet. I literally just woke up"
Deon said as he yawned and cracked his neck. It''s been 14 years since the fateful day that these two were picked up by their grandparents. Rai has just turned 15 while Deon is still 14. Deon has nearly grown as large as his grandfather with muscles to match. Meanwhile, Rai has grown to be a half a foot shorter than Deon with slim lean muscle covering his entire body.
"Excuses excuses"
Rai said as he launched another electrified kick towards Deon. This time Deon blocked and was slightly pushed back. Just as he was about to swing and hit Rai-
"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!?!"
Robert stood in the hole that Deon had just been sitting in a moment ago. Deon and Rai glanced at each other and immediately turned to run. As soon as they turned around Robert blasted forward and caught Deon by his collar while Mahina suddenly appeared right in front of Rai.
"Why do they always run"
"I don''t know. Maybe they hit their heads too hard back then. They don''t ever seem to learn."
Mahina and Robert laughed
"I really thought I had you this time Grandma. You are gettin really ol-"
Before Rai could finish Mahina kicked him in his stomach and sent him flying into the trees.
"I must be getting too old, I don''t think I heard you right."
Mahina said right before she disappeared into the forest after Rai. She then reappeared with Rai in tow.
"Does this mean it''s time for training?"
Deon asked as he smiled excitedly. Robert shook his head yes and Rai and Deon took off towards the house. While they went to get ready Robert spoke to Mahina.
"Did you feel it this morning?
"Yeah. They''re getting closer and closer every day. I don''t know how long we can let those two stay here. This island will become a battlefield."
Mahina said worriedly. The years of raising Deon and Rai had been both fun and peaceful, but soon the past was going to catch up to them and all of this would end.
"I know but are they ready? Rai is just barely fifteen and Deon is still fourteen. If they leave now won''t they be killed?"
Robert had turned into the worrywart now. As if their roles were reserved from all those years ago.
"You know who you sound like?"
"Who?"
"ME"
They both laughed. The tension and apprehension had begun to fade. Finally, Robert could think a little more clearly.
"If we send them off they may die. If we don''t, They have no chance of survival. We just have to believe in them.
Mahina said.
"If we''re sending them off then we need to at least test them."
Robert said as he sighed
"Are you gonna give those to Deon?"
Mahina asked
"Of course. I gotta give him a pair of real ones."
Robert smiled.
"Today''s the day. Let''s see what they really got"
