The days they were so free and happy, as if never ending. Never once Lu was truly mad about Chen, and even if she did, it was all part of a teasing act being a woman in love. After all, Chen was too kind that it hurt her to throw a tantrum on him.
If Chen never went for this mission, if he never fell intoa for years...
Would we be different?
If he never kept his true identity in the dark, if he was honest to me that he told me everything other than his name....
Would there still be these misunderstandings between us?
Only if I know you are Huo Chen, part of Huo Yunting’s family, I would have, even if my mother cried begging, not agreed to my marriage with Huo Yunting.
I should have been a bit more selfish.
I should have made choices for myself.
Things would have been better if I made mommy to not marry the Huo family.
Yet...
He was such a fine man, like the time before, only enhanced by his maturity over the years. It was such a pain that their rtionship before would remain as the darkest secret in her heart, probably for the rest of her life. The memories had already crumbled like ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
In the midst of her misery, she suddenly heard a trail of footsteps approaching her. She turned her head over, only to see the pair of military boots she adored, marching precisely towards her.
Every tter the boots made struck her heart like a painful stab.
Lu lifted her head, words of love were piling up at her throat, yet she could not express them, as if her voice had been stolen. Her eyes felt sore as she breathed through her blocked nose, tears started rolling off her twitching face again.
Huo Chen never liked the crowd, so he came out for a breather. It caught him off guard seeing her in the garden.
It was autumn, the dahlias filled thewn and danced along with the evening breeze.
Before she realized, her face was already full of tears. Her eyes were flooding, to an extent that she could only discern his silhouette.
Chen, the man she loved the most, was standing right before her, alive, as if everything was a bad dream before.
“Yang, I miss you. I missed you a lot...” It was a heart-wrenching scene to Huo Chen as he dashed right towards her and had her in his embrace.
It still felt warm as if yesterday.
Lu melted inside his gentleness, although her heart was calling ambivalence.
It was great news that Chen was still alive, that she would love to scream, hopping in his embrace like a chicky. Nevertheless, she had lost the privilege to do so.
His embrace came uneasily, that she was famished of every second of it and never wanting to leave.
How she hoped that time would freeze, that they would hug each other for all eternity.
Her heart raced, yet tears streamed down her cheeks, flushing away everyst bit of her defense.
She would love to say something for the moment but her ears caught a trail ofzy footsteps.
She knew that footstep.
Before Huo Chen could react, Lu frantically pushed her man away and ran behind the bushes in the garden.
Huo Chen then sensed the approaching person, as he swiftly turned to Huo Yunting, with a brief smile and open arms, “Yunting!”
Chen did not mind Lu’s reaction. He also believed that it was not the best timing to introduce her to his family as his girlfriend but he had faith that one day he would.
“Huo Chen!” Shouted Huo Yunting with also open arms. He then hugged Chen with a few bro-taps at his back, “Great to see you again!”
