She rushed towards him!
There were two guards at the door. She tried to open the door but was stopped by them.
“You cannot enter. Madam has ordered that you cannot see each other!” One of the guards spoke emotionlessly.
We can’t—Will we ever be able to see each other again?
She took one step back slowly but kept her eyes at the door. “I will just be standing here, not entering the room. I am not seeing him.”
Could she not do that too?
“Second Master is resting. It would be pointless even if you stand here for the rest of the night.”
The guards stood by the door, denying her entry with steely resolution.
Suddenly, Lu Zhaoyang heard some crashes from inside. In the next moment, she heard Huo Chen’s soft voice.
“I’m alright, Yang Yang...”
When Huo Chen heard Lu Zhaoyang’s voice, he immediately pushed away the doctor and got out of bed. At the moment, he was leaning against the door.
There were also two guards inside preventing him from leaving.
Lu Zhaoyang wanted to force her way in, but she would not stand a chance against the two burly guards outside.
“Does it hurt? I’m sorry for dragging you into this mess.”
“It doesn’t hurt. I don’t me you.” Huo Chen replied weakly. His wounds burned with pain every time he spoke.
Lu Zhaoyang reminded herself not to cry so as to not worry Huo Chen.
“Please leave, Ms Lu.”
One of the guards shoved her back and she stumbled a few steps backward.
It happened quietly but Huo Chen heard everything. He raised his voice and asked, “Are you alright, Yang Yang?”
“I’m fine. You should get some rest. Your wound needs treatment right away. I’ll be leaving now.”
She would find a way to see him.
Huo Chen heard her receding footsteps until it was quiet again outside. He then moved back toward his bed for the doctor to do his work.
His back was covered with bloody streaks from the whipping. Some of the wounds were still bleeding.
Wounds take longer to stop bleeding in winter. He must be treated fast to avoid infection.
Lu Zhaoyang returned to her room and tried to sleep. There was something that she could not figure out.
Despite the major incident today, she did not see Huo Yunting anywhere in the house.
Huo Yunting was the only person who knew of her escape with Huo Chen, but he was not here today.
He must be the one who spilled to the Huo family!
Lu Zhaoyang clenched her fists and punched angrily against the mattress. Her hatred toward Huo Yunting had grown deeper than ever!
After a restless night in bed, Lu Zhaoyang woke up early the next morning. She briefly washed herself before going to Huo Chen’s room again.
There were no guards at the door this time. Why were they gone so quickly?
It did not matter to her. She wanted to see Huo Chen right now and see how he was doing.
Lu Zhaoyang pushed the doors open and rushed into the room.
The room was neat and spotless. There was still a faint smell of blood and medicine lingering in the air, but Huo Chen was not there.
Therge bed in the room had been made and no one was sleeping in it.
Huo Chen was not in the room!
He was heavily injured. Where else could he be?
Lu Zhaoyang ran downstairs. Everyone else in the dining room had finished their breakfast.
Lu Zhaoyang entered the dining room politely but could not hide her worry.
Xue Yuming was the only one who bothered her with a look while the rest of the people ignored her.
