22. Welcome to the Ranch, my new Pokémon!

“Pray, Arceus, tell, no, what are you, no, Vanessa, you…”

Grrrr, I don’t find the right words!

    ”…”

”Haaaaa, you don’t even get what you did wrong, did you?”

    shake

”Releasing a Legendary Pokémon in a public building anyone can walk in, probably scaring them in the process, which might even cause extreme reactions, just so that you can try to ask your Pokémon what they think the diagnosis means. Does that ring a bell?

”That is what I just did.”

”Correct. Do you think there might be anything wrong with that?”

”Nurse Joy said that it should be fine, as long as I dissuade troublesome people.”

”First, dissuasion might not always work. Clearly push them away; when they continue to approach you, extreme measures such as calling the police should be fine. Don’t let yourself get harassed.

Second, ‘Nurse Joy said’ won’t cut it out! What would you do when you enter the waiting room while your Pokémon gets treated and see a Gyarados right before your nose?

”I would probably call Zapdos to help.”

”… I am speechless. Really? Calling Zapdos?!”

”Psst, keep your voice a bit down, please.”

exhale”Then please, please… try to understand what you did wrong.”

”I won’t call out Legendary Pokémon casually more.”

    ”Yes. Yes, thank you.

Wait, Legendary Pokémon? You say it as if you had more?”

    ”No. Only Zapdos.”

    “Ha, good.”

Just by entering the room, Sabrina already stood near Zapdos.

The meaning face, occasionally discharges all over its body, and the pressure from being near it sapped out all of her strength and courage.

Vanessa noticed at some point the pale girl standing in the room and looked at her, trying to say something.

But before she could formulate her first words, Sabrina already swished her head in her direction, creating eye contact.

For a moment, Vanessa feels like looking into the eyes of a vengeful spirit, which will haunt her all the way down to the underworld.

As she tried to reflexively cover herself, she was already packed by the shoulder, looking directly into the face of a very angry Sabrina.

Her Pokémon sensed something amiss at the time but had varying reactions.

Zapdos looked a bit bored, shuffling its feathers comfortably before calling itself back, looking like it wanted to rest.

Pidgey already chose the flight reaction as Sabrina’s head flung this way, flying outside the room and beyond.

Growlithe stands to the side, quietly panting, seeming to wait for the lecture to be over to play, oblivious to the stifling atmosphere.

As Sabrina collapsed exhausted in a chair, he jumps into Vanessa’s stomach with a very light jump.

”Eehhhhhmmmm, I would need to find Pidgey now.”

”Do that, and don’t forget the papers." Just ask your parents or look it up.

This content has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere. At this point, you could just call Zapdos out in your home.”

    ”Okay, thank you!”

    Thank you, she says.

Am I her guardian or something?

”And don’t pick fights with Gyarados, you hear me?”

    …

    No response.

    She won’t, right? Right?

    ”Haaaaaaaaa.”

”Sorry, I ended up neglecting you all.”

Sabrina talks to her Pokéballs, every one of her Pokémon having dodged witnessing the scene by calling themself back.

She puts the papers carefully in her bag, not having the motivation to read it.

Walking. That’s her only option now: to go back to the farm.

Not that it was any different before, but now it feels especially exhausting.

Shortly before being out of the city, she sees an orange-red flash passing by and stopping before her.

”Hey, I heard you came back?”

Vanessa’s mother, which name she already forgot, sits before her on her Arcanine.

It’s noticeable that she is a bit confused why she is so weary, evidence that she left before Vanessa came back.

Either because she left fast after hearing about them coming back or bad timing.

Idly, she wondered how Nick, was his name?, would react at seeing Zapdos.

”Want me to give you a ride?”

She wears a polite smile as she asks.

And shifts a bit around as Sabrina began to smile nefariously at the thought.

”I gladly take you up on that offer. If possible, without using extreme speed or something similar that would require me wearing goggles.”

    Sabrina composes herself before answering.

The second sentence was an afterthought, seeing the Mothers Googles, Biker outfit, and remembering their entrance from before.

Even though a bit surprised at how she answered, the mother still begins to smile genuinely at her words.

    ”Sure. Hop on.”

She looks at the standing Arcanine and wonders how she should ‘hop on’ before thinking she could just try.

Since she isn’t physically exhausted, a bit of run-up and a high-aimed jump aren’t too demanding.

To her surprise, and also the mothers and Arcanine''s, she reaches the height pretty good.

Before gravity could take control over completely, Sabrina holds on to the mothers, holding herself down and a bit forwards.

The back was safely reached in her jump, but she was pretty to the side, nearly sliding down again.

Now being in a more comfortable position, she positioned her leg left and right while facing in the same direction as Arcanine and the mother.

    ”Okay. Everyone ready? Let’s go!”

    Monica! Her name was Monica.

As Monica gave her signal, Arcanine took off like an arrow.

At least he doesn’t seem to use any Moves, is what Sabrina can think of as the surroundings flash past too fast for her to make anything out.

Even when she tries to look forwards, using Monica as a shield for dust and insects, itstill feels like flashing past.

She also needs to duck down a bit, being relatively tall for her age, while the adult woman leans forward like a shrimp.

Having gotten a very visual presentation once about the consequences, Sabrina does have a bit better posture, even when not perfect.

So she thinks it''s grueling how she leans forward so much, but rethinks about is as she remembers her appearance in the dining room in her House.

Maybe this is just an exception and not the norm.

    ”We are there!”

    ”That was fast.”

”Of course! How many Pokémon do you think are there that can rival his running speed?”

”Hmm, I guess that is what you can expect of a Pokémon that learns Extreme Speed at his evolution.”

”You know your stuff, I must say. Most probably would have never heard about the move, but you even know that.”

”Well, when things are interesting to you, it’s natural that you learn them.

Arcanine is something that comes in conjunction with Kanto rather easily, legend status and all.”

”Ah, right. That’s like, four, nearing five years already that it was found out it only needs a Fire Stone.

Before, they were said to be legendary Pokémon. I am surprised you know that.”

“I did my homework before coming. And also, Kantos legends are very interesting.”

“Oh, glad to hear that. Then bye!”

With that, Monica turns around and vanishes in a blur.

A prime example use of extreme speed on an open field.

Hopefully, she crashes in no one.

”I wonder if there is a speed limit for Pokémon.

Well, Arcanine shouldn’t be so stupid as to crash into something or someone.”

Sabrina began to take all her Pokéballs currently used in her hand, reversing the miniaturization.

Gripping three in each hand, she threw them into the air.

”Welcome to my little Berry Ranch! Let me be your guide.”

She says it in a dramatic voice and ends it with a bow.

There are quite a few things she has to do until the next harvest.

    Let’s not waste time!
